Attached are some resources to get you started with fractions! These come from Howard County which has great resources for so many math standards!

Another great resource for this is the Hand2Mind free resources: https://www.hand2mind.com/lessons/lessons-by-subject/math-lessons
If you go to the website you can search by grade level and find different lessons for fractions starting with second grade. From there, you will find worksheets and videos.

I like to show my students shapes like hearts, squares and rectangles. I fold them so that the students can see the fractions.

I used Legos to create equivalencies and then they could build after the lesson. I have also used large Hershey bars because they could easily he divided into fractions of a whole. I have also cut pool noodles that I bought at the dollar store, cut them into halves, thirds, fourths, and used sharpies to write the fractions on each part to add fractions and find equivalencies. I then made those into a math station.

I start my fraction lessons with fraction bars. I am fortunate to have a class set and a document camera so I project my work as well. Fraction bars are a great manipulative to teach equivalents and comparing fractions. I have will have students work in small groups to have larger sets to build improper fractions and mixed numbers.
